Feb 22 2006 -Nablus and Balata invasion
A massive military invasion of Nablus and Balata Refugee Camp resulted in four killed, over 40 injured (at least half of them children or young teenagers), buildings trashed, even an UNWRA school taken over by soldiers and its interior destroyed. Medical services seemed to be particularly targetted, including one female medical worker killed and an ambulance carrying the injured rammed by jeeps. This invasion would appear to be a huge provocative exercise.  More details are on the website: www.maannews.net/en

In September 2004, members of Preston Respect travelled to the West Bank. A pamphlet has been written 'A Palestine Journey' by Michael Lavalette and published by Respect.To buy a copy, write to Cllr Lavalette with a cheque for £3 payable to Preston Respect  at the Town Hall, Lancaster rd, Preston.

'No one can begin to imagine the size of Israel’s apartheid wall. After hearing it referred to on the television news as a "security fence", it was the highest irony when we reached the ten metre high concrete slabs. The injustice that the Palestinian people face every day is the embodiment of the immorality that exists throughout the globe as a result of capitalist and imperialist powers at work. It is our duty to end this.’
ESTELLE COOCH school student

Palestinian radio interviewed the group.

Preston firefighters twinned with Nablus;

Palestinian firefighters face extraordinary dangers every single day. Fire engines are shot at by Israeli occupation forces, while firefighters face arbitrary arrest and detention'

 STEVE HARMAN Fire Brigades Union official

Links were forged with An-Najah university and students invited here in 2005. The university's website gives regular updates on the conflict:

The group saw first hand the conditions in the Al-Amari and Balata refugee camps.
